When I Look At The Stars

The milky way, as seen from just below Shannon Ridge in the Cascade mountains. Taking photos of heavenly entities is a difficult task without the proper equipment. Ideally I would need a full frame sensor to harvest the detail at such a high ISO setting but I lack that so I made do with what I had.

While the Canon XSi isnt really suited for such shots (especially not at ISO 1600) I was able to pull usable shots out using as wide an aperture as possible.

I also didnt have a remote to trigger the shutter so I had to stand there with the camera and manually hold the shutter button down for the length of the exposure (1.5 minutes in this case) without moving the camera at all.

I hope to go back when I have better equipment to really capture the milky way in all its glory
